Cristina Contreras no tiene palabras para explicar lo humilde que era su familia en República Dominicana. Su familia vivía en una casa que apenas se sostenía en pie. Y la comida era tan escasa que nunca sabían si al siguiente día tendrían un plato en la mesa. La situación era tan precaria que la madre de Cristina tuvo que emigrar a Estados Unidos. Luego trajo a Cristina. La chica tenía 15 años, y lo único que traía consigo era la convicción de que solo la educación la podría sacar de la pobreza. “Cuando llegué a este país, siempre me dijeron que la educación era imprescindible para salir adelante”, dijo.
